The St. Croix Day Care Center was founded by three Stillwater, MN parents in 1969. Their goal was simple: to establish and operate a community-focused, licensed, non-profit day care center for children - ranging in age between sixteen months and nine years - who would not otherwise have day care and supervision available to their families. Moreover, to provide for that daycare and preschool through real investment in all of the things it takes to operate a successful center - furniture, equipment, books, space, great teachers - all while focusing on the needs of the local Stillwater community. That first year 15 children were enrolled and by 1976 that enrollment doubled and a nursery school was added. The center continues to operate as a non-profit corporation under a Board of Directors. The Day Care and the Preschool have since moved into two separate buildings: the daycare is located in St. Peter?s church and the preschool is located in the First Presbyterian Church. Both sites are licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services. The daycare is licensed for 44 children, and the preschool is licensed for 20 children. |
